In July 2013, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) released content from four listening sessions conducted throughout 2011 with families who had direct contact with the juvenile justice system. The report relays key comments and highlights from participants’ responses to several questions about the experiences with and effectiveness of the juvenile justice system. Common themes included the need for prevention and intervention, the juvenile justice system stigmatizing families and failing to provide adequate communication, and the positive impact when the family was involved in the process.
